Long Distance Motorcycle Riding
When you go on a long-distance motorcycle ride, there are a few extra considerations you’ll need to make. They help you stay safe as well as more comfortable through your extended hours on the road. Read on for some helpful long-distance motorcycle riding tips!
Don’t Underestimate the Impact of Weather
On a short bike ride, it can be fun to get caught in the rain or feel a cool breeze whip by you. When you’re on your motorcycle and have three hours to go before you reach your destination, it’ll make you cold and miserable.
Pack for the Weather Forecast
Always check the weather before heading out and dress according to the forecasts for the day. If there’s a chance of rain, throw on a layer of water-resistant clothing for example.
Build the Route for the Weather Forecast
Also, make sure to adjust the timing of your route according to the weather. If you’re not confident about riding on slick roads, for example, postpone the ride till the roads are drier.
Do a Pre-Ride Motorcycle Check
A pre-ride check is a great routine to get in the habit of, since any preventative maintenance will help keep your bike running for miles to come. It’s especially important to check your bike out before a longer ride, since it’s more likely you’ll find yourself further away from home when something goes wrong. Some components to include on your check: tire pressure and integrity, engine oil and filter, chains and belts, brake pads and fluid, and generally functioning electronics.
