Your Motorcycle Pre-Ride Checklist
In order to ensure your own safety while riding your motorcycle, you need to check it over first. A thorough pre-ride inspection won’t guarantee that nothing will go wrong on the highway, but it will drastically reduce your risk of suffering a dangerous and expensive breakdown in the middle of your journey. Here is the checklist you’ll want to follow when inspecting your motorcycle before every ride.
Check Tire Pressure & Condition
Take a careful look at both tires and use a tire-pressure gauge to check their psi levels. Air up tires as needed. Make sure that your tires are not balding or cracking and look for any objects like nails or screws that could have become embedded in the treads.
Top Off Fluids
Make sure that your oil is clean and topped off and that your radiator has plenty of coolant in it to keep your engine running smoothly. You should also fill up your tank with fresh gasoline since you never know when you’ll find a gas station on longer journeys.
Test Brakes & Clutch
Hop on your bike and do a test ride around your block, speeding up and slowing down as you apply your brakes and check your clutch. You’ll be able to determine whether these features are making strange noises or failing to properly engage this way, which is much safer than finding it out when you’re cruising down the interstate at 60 miles per hour.
