How to Prevent a Motorcycle Crash
Riding your motorcycle is an enjoyable way to spend your time, but it is not an activity without risks. Due to the fact that you’re exposed to the open air and have a much smaller footprint than someone in a car or truck, you have to work harder to keep yourself safe. Here are a few things you can do to help prevent a motorcycle crash.
Be Visible
It’s hard to see a black motorcycle ridden by a motorcyclist wearing dark colors against a gray road. Wear bright colors or reflective gear so that other drivers can see you easily. You can add reflective tape to your helmet and bike, too. Adding brighter LED lights to your motorcycle is another good strategy.
Ride With Care
Always obey the speed limit and ride defensively. Don't take chances on the road, and give yourself plenty of time to react to other vehicles. Try to avoid riding in bad weather if possible. If you must ride in the rain or snow, take extra care to watch for slick spots and ride slowly.
Stay Aware & Stay Sober
When riding your motorcycle, it’s crucial that you stay alert and sober when riding. Avoid distractions like cell phones, and never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Keeping your motorcycle well-maintained will also help you to prevent an accident. This includes regularly checking the tires, brakes, and lights to make sure everything is in working order. Contact the Desperado Harley-Davidson® service department if you have concerns.
