How to Care For Your Leather Motorcycle Seat
A leather motorcycle seat is a very common and popular choice for many riders, due to the smoothness of the leather and its aesthetic appeal. However, because you ride your motorcycle in all types of weather conditions, including sun and rain, that leather can become rather dingy and worn-looking pretty quickly if you’re not taking care of it properly. Here are some ways to make sure that your leather motorcycle seat always looks its best.
1. Clean
Wipe your motorcycle seat with a damp rag to remove loose dirt. Use a special leather cleaning substance like saddle soap and some water to carefully clean grease, dirt, oil, and debris off your motorcycle seat with a soft cloth. Rinse off residue and let your seat air-dry.
2. Condition
Next, you need to condition your seat’s leather to keep it from cracking or peeling in the hot sun. A leather conditioner or an oil such as mink or neatsfoot is a great option for conditioning your leather. If you can find a conditioner that offers UV protection and water resistance, so much the better! Apply the conditioner gently with a soft cloth and buff it in circles. Allow it to soak into the leather for 15 minute before wiping off excess.
3. Protect
Finally, adding some protection to your leather will keep it gleaming and new-looking. A spray-on leather protector can be applied to a soft cloth and buffed in similarly to the conditioner. Also, store your motorcycle indoors with a cover on it whenever you can to better protect the seat leather.
